Take a moment: superstitions

Image
(I'm making it a thing where I link the spotify playlist I listen to while I write each post. So here' s the playlist for this post :) ) Hey there! When I was 10, I did this massive (literally it was massive) project about Russia for culture day since I'm adopted from Russia. I did facts about Moscow, The Kursk, money, Russians in space and superstitions. Researching superstitions was most definitely the most interesting part of the project and stuck in my head the most too. I was so interested in this that I thought I'd research into other countries and see how superstitious they are too! Some of the most common and most well known superstitions worldwide - If you find a penny, you have to pick it up. - It's bad luck to walk under a ladder. - It's bad luck for a black cat to cross your path. - A rabbit's foot will bring you luck. - Bad luck comes in threes. - It's bad luck to break a mirror. - The number 666 is said to be the de

Mary's favourites: books edition

Hey there! Reading has been an important part of my life for as long as I can remember. I remember being a kid and staying up until the ungodly hour of 11pm to finish reading Nancy Drew or a Jaqueline Wilson book and even when I was finished one book, I had a little pile on the floor as well as a few more books under my pillow to keep me going. Unfortunately, I'm definitely not as dedicated to reading as I used to be and my bookshelf has downsized a lot in the last five or six years. However, nothing beats the thrill of reading a good book and staying up all night to finish it. I've read a few books over the years who's stories have stayed with me or I've found myself rereading without getting tired of the storyline and here's that list! It's not very interesting since I had to stop myself from accidentally spoiling the plot for you but I hope they somewhat pique your interest anyway! Album and movie review: K-12

Image
(Please note that I'm keeping in mind that a lot of my friends and mutuals have opinions of Melanie that vary from one extreme to the other, I am going to do my best to keep this review as objective and honest as possible and not let my personal opinion of Melanie, or others for that matter, affect what I think of both her movie and her music. Also please keep in mind that I will spoil the movie in this so I wouldn't recommend reading if you haven't watched the movie yet.) Hey there! 2 days ago after a 4 year hiatus, Melanie Martinez dropped her sophomore album "K-12" (pronounced k through 12). Set in the fictional world of Melanie's character Crybaby, the album deals with themes such as bullying and body image issues within a school setting, as well as dealing with how those higher up abuse their power. Not only did Melanie drop music for the first time in two years, she went above and beyond and even made an accompanying movie of the same name. The album

Take a moment: a brief inquiry into online relationships

Image
(Edit: I wrote this up in January and never published it because I genuinely totally forgot about it until today. Enjoy!) Hey there! I've wanted to do a blog post talking about positive verses negative experiences online for a while but I decided to take a totally different approach to doing this post, with a little help from my own online friends and mutuals. I decided to compile a list of questions to ask some of my followers on Instagram to answer and I was extremely pleased with the response I got! I got a lot of responses and with those responses, I came up with a number of statistics to represent how people between 13 and 18 (which would be the average ages of my followers) feel about their online experience overall from various angles. My results, I have to say, were very interesting and are outlined in my mini report below.  - Positive verses negative experiences on social media A study carried out via Instagram in January 2018 Hypothesis: My in

Take a moment: the full moon

Image
Hey there! I don't know about you, but I grew up being terrified of the full moon because as a mermaid, I knew it would cause me to go insane ;) (Joking! I'm not a mermaid!) (...or am I?) The full moon represents different things in different cultures, and it's quite strange to delve into the effect the moon could have on human beings, especially since it's just another part of our solar system. (Which begs the question: I wonder to beings on other planets look at earth and wonder what effect we have on them?) The moon mostly plays a significant part in believers of astrology, especially since your moon sign represents your emotions and your inner mood. It's also a common perception that the moon causes us to go crazy, which sounds crazy but it actually, in fact, isn't all that insane of a theory. Here's some facts about the moon and how it affects us, from a scientific point of view: - One study in 1978 in Florida looked over police records over

Take a moment: Stardoll

Image
(Hi I have no idea what happened my font near the end and I've no idea how to fix it oops; sorry bout that) Hey there! This blog post is going to be a bit of a blast from the past! Many of you may remember using a website as a kid named Stardoll (or as it used to be called “Paperdoll heaven”) It was one of these online games, similar to Club Penguin and Moshi Monsters, where you had a virtual person named a medoll (it’s rarely referenced to as that now though) and you could dress it up. The game was launched back in 2006 and I started using it a year later. I was lucky enough to be able to play on the original Stardoll site so I suppose I really am an OG player! The site has changed dramatically in the last 18 years since it was launched. Originally you couldn’t do a lot at all, I’m pretty sure you could only play games on it (I honestly can’t remember) but then, you could start earning virtual currency and I think it was around 2009 when the website changed drastically.
